The company “Cartiere di Trevi” celebrated its 50th anniversary on 25 October 2010. On this occasion, they promoted a Round Table on sustainable development, with special reference to the territory in Umbria, a rich natural landscape where industrial development is in harmony with the environment.
The participants in the debate included Catiuscia Marini, the President of Umbria Region, Antonio Tajani, vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Industry and Entreprise, Antonio Campanile, the president of Confindustria Perugia, professor Umberto Desideri, full professor of Energy Systems at the University of Perugia, and Massimo Medugno, Managing Director of Assocarta. The debate was chaired by Anna Mossuto, director of the “Corriere dell’Umbria”.
The debate took place in the theatre Clitunno. Mayor Giuliano Nalli officiated the welcoming addresses to Trevi. Maurizio Graziosi, the CEO of Cartiere di Trevi, opened the debate with special emphasis on the motivations for choosing sustainable development as the topic to celebrate 50 years of a company which uses recycled materials in all its production processes, and does not use wood fibres, thus having zero impact on the environment in terms of deforestation and exploitation of woodlands.
Hon. Tajani made a significant contribution defining “Cartiere di Trevi” as a “farsighted company that respects the European model for industry in a sector – the paper industry – which produces and consumes renewable energy and is among the most sustainable sectors in Europe. This sector contributes to meeting the objectives of social cohesion and growth and employment promotion in rural areas”.
Catiuscia Marini, president of Umbria region, emphasised “the importance of territorial policy and its compliance with European Union objectives, the only way to foster competitiveness and opportunity for businesses in Umbria. Umbria, and specifically certain farsighted businesses including Cartiere di Trevi, have successfully taken advantage of opportunities offered by the European Union, with special emphasis on research and innovation. Now is the time to persevere, raising our ability to implement industrial policies favouring investment in alternative sectors, stimulating the development of the green economy”.
